In a strategic move, Simon Marange, a key figure in Orlando Pirates’ coaching staff, steps into the role of head coach for Zimbabwe’s Under-20 national team.
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) sees Marange as the perfect candidate, bringing valuable experience in developing young players.
Collaborative Effort: Backlyfied Chivenga Joins as Assistant Coach
Marange won’t be alone in his new venture; Backlyfied Chivenga, an experienced coach with a background at Aces Academy, will serve as his assistant.
Their collaborative effort aims to enhance the technical aspects of the Zimbabwe U-20 team.
ZIFA’s Announcement: Marange’s Qualifications and Achievements
ZIFA officially announced Simon Marange’s appointment on March 12, 2024. The association highlights Marange’s extensive coaching journey, including his role as the Orlando Pirates reserve team coach and previous success with the U17 and U21 teams.
His notable achievement in winning the Future Champions Trophy adds to his credentials.
Mandate for Marange: U-20 Coach’s Role in Upcoming Tournaments
With an eye on the future, Simon Marange’s primary mandate is to secure qualification for the upcoming tournaments, including the 2025 AFCON and 2025 FIFA World Cup.
FIFA’s decision to lift Zimbabwe’s ban in 2023 paved the way for the nation’s participation in international football activities.
Norman Mapeza’s Return: Reappointment as Zimbabwe’s Interim Coach
In a parallel development, ZIFA reappoints Norman Mapeza as Zimbabwe’s interim coach. Mapeza, known for his success with FC Platinum, will lead the Warriors in the forthcoming four-nations tournament in Malawi.
The tournament, featuring Malawi, Kenya, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, will take place in Lilongwe from the 18th to the 26th of March.
Assistance from Takesure Chiragwi: Coaching Dynamics for the Warriors
Assisting Norman Mapeza in his coaching duties will be Takesure Chiragwi, the head coach of Ngezi Platinum Stars.
The collaborative coaching dynamics aim to strengthen the Warriors for the challenges ahead.
Continued Focus on Youth: ZIFA’s Strategic Coaching Appointments
ZIFA’s recent coaching appointments reflect a continued focus on youth development and strategic reinforcement.
Marange’s expertise and Mapeza’s return signal a commitment to nurturing both emerging talent and the senior national team’s prowess.
