The Pirates’ head coach has explained Zakhele Lepasa’s prolific goal-scoring.

This season, Zakhele Lepasa has been Orlando Pirates’ go-to goal scorer.

The Sea Robbers’ 26-year-old striker has scored nine times in all competitions this season and is on pace for 20+ goals if he keeps up his current pace.

Coach Jose Riveiro of the Pirates has shed light on why Lepasa has been so productive this year in front of goal.

This season, Lepasa has netted nine goals for the Pirates.

The striker spent last year on loan at SuperSport United, but he has emerged as a key contributor for the Buccaneers in the scoring department since his return.

Kaizer Chiefs veteran claims Amakhosi will eliminate Mamelodi Sundowns from MTN8 competition.

We must ensure that our second-string forwards (the nines, tens, wingers, etc.) are given opportunities to contribute. So, we want to create as many opportunities as we can. The Pirates’ head coach was quoted in The Citizen as saying, “I think we are used to doing it, that’s our obsession, to spend as much time as possible in the half of the opponent.”

Pirates are now fourth in the DStv Premiership table following Tuesday’s 2-0 victory over Cape Town City.

“It was difficult in the second half (against Cape Town City) due of Cape Town City’s pressuring. As a result, “with the quality we have up front, it’s going to work for us if we manage to spend (time) in their half and if we’re capable of having the team play close to the goal for long periods of time,” as Riveiro put it.

A SuperSport adolescent has made up his mind: Bafana Bafana is better than Nigeria.

The Bucs’ midfielders are putting in extra time to feed the attack.

The Pirates commended Lepasa’s midfielders and cited his self-assurance as reasons for his success.

You can tell he is in a good place mentally, as he has scored on the rebound, from long range (today), and with a header. It doesn’t matter if it’s Zakes or someone else in that spot, we just need to keep it up,” he remarked.
