Pennsylvania authorities are on high alert as they intensify their search for Danelo Cavalcante, a Brazilian fugitive who managed to escape from a maximum-security prison in Chester County on a Thursday morning.
This escape follows his sentencing to a life sentence just two weeks prior, for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Débora Brandao, a tragic incident that occurred in April 2021.
Brandao, a mother of two, lost her life at the hands of Cavalcante.
Deploying Resources: Patrol Cars and Helicopters
The Pennsylvania State Police, now overseeing the investigation, have gone to great lengths to locate Cavalcante.
Patrol cars and helicopters have been mobilized in the search effort.
An unconventional strategy employed is the transmission of a recorded message from Cavalcante’s own mother, delivered in Portuguese.
This message appeals to him to surrender to the authorities without the looming threat of violence.
The Lethal Force Ultimatum
Pennsylvania State Police Deputy Commissioner George Bivens issued a stern warning on Monday: if Cavalcante does not actively surrender, lethal force is authorized.
The gravity of the situation is underscored by the potential for violence if Cavalcante remains at large.
Reports have surfaced of four credible sightings, but apprehending the convicted murderer remains an elusive endeavor.
Recent Sighting and Unanswered Questions
A glimmer of hope emerged when a residential surveillance camera captured Cavalcante’s image as he traversed a wooded area around 12:30 am on a Saturday.
At that time, he was dressed in pants, a light-colored t-shirt, and white sneakers.
Yet, the circumstances surrounding his escape from the prison remain shrouded in mystery, as he was in custody pending transfer to a state prison.
International Pursuit and a Gruesome Past
Cavalcante is not only a fugitive in the United States but is also wanted for a murder in Brazil that occurred in 2021.
Prosecutors allege that he brutally stabbed Débora Brandao in front of her two children to prevent her from reporting him to U.S. authorities.
He was apprehended in Virginia after committing this heinous crime, with suspicions that he was attempting to flee to Mexico, eventually aiming to return to Brazil.
Authorities are considering the possibility that he may be contemplating a similar escape route once again.
