Pandora Cooper-Key Passes Away at 51 in London After Two Decades of Battling Various Cancers

Tragedy has struck as Pandora Cooper-Key, the sister of model Cressida Bonas, has passed away at the age of 51 after a long, arduous battle with cancer.

Pandora’s struggle with various forms of cancer began 24 years ago, and despite the immense challenges she faced, she remained a beacon of strength and resilience.

Pandora was initially diagnosed with cancer at 26 in 2000.

By the end of last year, she was informed of a tumor on the left side of her skull that doctors deemed inoperable.

This news came after she had already been through rounds of immunotherapy, hoping for a chance at recovery. Reflecting on her condition earlier this year, Pandora shared with Femail, “To operate, they’d have to go through blood vessels and that’s not great.”

Family and Background

Pandora was the half-sister of Cressida Bonas and the daughter of former It girl Lady Mary-Gaye Curzon and aristocrat Esmond Cooper-Key. Lady Mary-Gaye, Cressida’s mother, has been married four times.

With her first husband, Esmond Cooper-Key, she had Pandora. Her second marriage to John Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe brought Georgiana and Jacobi into the family.

Her third marriage to entrepreneur Jeffrey Bonas resulted in Cressida Bonas.

After her marriage to John Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe ended, he later had children with Gabriella Wilde and Octavia Elsa Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe, who remain close to Cressida.

The Personal Impact of Her Illness

Throughout her life, Pandora faced several significant health challenges.

Diagnosed with Paget’s disease at 26, she had to leave her role as a handbag designer at Vivienne Westwood to focus on her family.

Shortly after giving birth to her first child, she learned of sarcoma in her eye and sinus area. Sarcomas are rare malignant tumors, with only a few cases diagnosed each year in the UK.

Despite the grim prognosis given at one point, Pandora’s scans were later misinterpreted, leading to a period of false hope. Eventually, she faced additional tumors, including one in her cheek and another at the back of her nose.

In 2016, she suffered from seizures that sometimes rendered her unconscious for weeks.

Despite these challenges, Pandora launched a ceramics business called Curzon Blue in 2022, inspired by her love of glassware and her mother’s maiden name.

Legacy and Remembrance

Pandora’s legacy extends beyond her personal battle with cancer.

Sarcoma UK, a charity she supported, praised her as a “beautiful spirit and an inspiration to so many.” The Times described her as a “beloved daughter,” “adored mother,” “much-loved sister,” and “devoted aunt.”

Pandora is survived by her two sons, whom she had with TV producer Matthew Mervyn-Jones before their separation. Even in her final years, she continued to work on her business and find solace in her passion for glassware, a testament to her enduring spirit and resilience.
