Oyo State Initiates Talks to Resolve Saki-East and Oorelope Boundary Dispute

Initiating Peace Talks

The Oyo State Government took proactive measures to address the enduring boundary conflict between Saki-East and Oorelope Local Government Areas.

A peace conference was convened in the state capital of Ibadan at the Western Hall of the Agodi Secretariat to bring representatives from both local governments to the negotiation table.

Commendation for Community Leaders

Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, also the Boundary Commission Chairman, praised the leaders of the disputing communities for their restraint and maturity in not resorting to force.

He commended their diligence in reporting any encroachments from neighboring areas, showcasing their genuine commitment to pursuing peaceful resolution.

Historical Context and Government Commitment

Highlighting the historical nature of the dispute dating back to 1960, Lawal stressed the importance of responsibly settling both interstate and interboundary disputes to prevent violence.

Assuring ongoing efforts by the state government, he pledged the mobilization of the Office of Surveyor General to carry out the land boundary demarcation.

Seeking Harmony Amidst Dispute

While urging patience during the demarcation process, the deputy governor urged the communities to maintain peace and collaborate with the surveyor general by providing relevant documentary evidence for the survey.

Government’s Stance and Law Enforcement Assurance

Lawal reiterated the government’s stance against engaging in legal battles over boundaries, focusing instead on a lasting solution.

Superintendent of Police Olaolu Adedokun, representing the State Commissioner of Police, hailed the meeting as a testament to the government’s genuine concern for citizen welfare.

He emphasized the administration’s support for law enforcement efforts in maintaining peace and commended traditional leaders for their role in promoting compliance among the youth.

Adedokun reaffirmed the commitment of the state police command to ensuring communal harmony and vowed ongoing efforts to safeguard the populace, emphasizing the government’s dedication to fostering a peaceful environment.
