Oyo Government to Sanction School Heads, Teachers for Malpractice

The Oyo State Government has stated that it would henceforth penalise school principals and teachers fingered in any form of examination malpractice and falsification of documents by the West African Examination Council, WAEC.

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abiodun Abdu-Raheem, made the declaration, in Ibadan, while reacting to a report by the WAEC indicting some schools on the conduct of the recently released result in the state.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun, Abdu-Raheem, condemned such acts of corruption and malpractices, vowing that the headship of any school found culpable of such offences would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

The education commissioner noted that the state government, under the leadership of governor Seyi Makinde, would not compromise hard-work for dishonesty.

He emphasized that the present government was putting everything aright in the education sector of the state, through provision of funds, regular payment of salaries and salary arrears and promotions.

Zero Tolerance for Malpractice

Abdu-Raheem emphasised zero tolerance for examination malpractice by the present administration, stating that the result of examination malpractice is not just suicidal and capable of painting the state in bad light, but also messing up and destroying the future of the young ones.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Teaching Service Commission, Akinade Alamu, cautioned school managements and teachers to be wary of such acts.

Alamo stated that any principal or teacher found culpable would be demoted, coupled with other serial sanctions and warned principals to always be present during examinations, as no excuse would be tolerated.
