A pro bull rider was killed in Utah late Monday in what Salt Lake City police are calling a domestic violence homicide.

Demetrius Omar Lateef Allen, who went by the name Ouncie Mitchell as a pro bull rider, was found shot outside an apartment complex in Salt Lake City, police said in a news release. Allen, 27, was transferred to a hospital, where he died.

Police arrested LaShawn Denise Bagley, a 21-year-old woman, on suspicion of homicide and felony discharge of a handgun, Salt Lake City Police said.

Bagley and Allen had been in a relationship. Allen had travelled to Utah to attend the state fair and was staying with Bagley. The two got into a confrontation at a pub, and Allen returned to Bagley’s apartment to get his stuff, where he was shot, authorities said.

Bagley was booked into jail. No charges have been brought as of Monday afternoon. It is unknown if she has an attorney.

The fatal shooting was the 10th homicide in Salt Lake City this year, authorities said.

Sean Gleason, commissioner of Professional Bull Riders, PBR, said in a statement that Allen is the same person who goes by the name Ouncie Mitchell. He said the organization was heartbroken to find out about the death of a rider that had been a regular figure on the PBR Velocity Tour and competed in the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo. According to his PBR website biography, he was from Fresno, Texas.

According to the website, he qualified for the 2019 PBR World Finals by finishing a career-best 55th in the world standings.

We are stunned and sorry to learn of the demise of Ouncie, also known as Demetrius Allen, last night…

“His name is Ouncie since he was born little,” Gleason explained. The PBR organization expresses its deepest condolences to Ouncie Mitchell’s cousin Ezekiel Mitchell and the whole Mitchell family.

Additionally, he is survived by his 4-year-old daughter, according to PBR’s website
