The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has strongly criticized the Muslim-Muslim ticket fielded by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2023 election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, NEF spokesman Hakeem Baba-Ahmed labeled it as a fraudulent move.
Religion as a Tool for Political Manipulation
Baba-Ahmed expressed concern over the use of religion by Nigerian politicians to undermine the country’s political system and poison the faith of its citizens.
He highlighted the destructive impact of this manipulation, emphasizing that religion should not be a determining factor in evaluating a politician’s worth.
Lack of Benefit in the North from Previous Muslim Leadership
The NEF spokesman further pointed out that even though Nigeria had a Muslim president, Muhammadu Buhari, for eight years, the North did not experience significant improvements during that period.
Baba-Ahmed questioned the value that Muslim-Muslim ticket candidates like El-Rufai brought to the Muslim population, citing instances where their actions appeared to be detrimental to their own religious community.
The Deception of Faith-Based Politics
Baba-Ahmed strongly criticized the concept of the Muslim-Muslim ticket as a fraud perpetuated by politicians who exploit faith for their own gains.
He called for a realization that bringing religion into politics is detrimental to the overall political system and urged people to open their eyes to this reality.
The NEF spokesman highlighted the fact that one’s religious affiliation does not necessarily reflect their personal character or values.
