This development comes in the wake of a new immigration law implemented by the UK government, which states that starting from January 2024, foreign students, including those from Nigeria, will not be permitted to bring their family members to the country as dependents unless certain specific circumstances apply.

The objective of this law is to reduce immigration numbers, which currently stand at around one million.

In an interview with the BBC, Emdee, who is a YouTuber, revealed that a large number of Nigerians entering the UK with student visas do not have genuine intentions to pursue education.

Instead, they use the student visa route as a means to escape poverty and seek better opportunities abroad.

Emdee’s statement ignited a wave of anger among Nigerians on social media, prompting many individuals to inundate his social media pages with curses and strong criticism regarding his remarks on Nigerian immigration.
