Bridget LeRoy, his stepdaughter, confirmed the news of his passing on Facebook, writing: ‘A warm and loving farewell to the most fantastic stepdad and human being in the world.’

‘I’ll always love you, Tony Walton. ‘Have a fantastic trip.’

In 1979, Walton won an Oscar for best art direction for Bob Fosse’s All That Jazz, was nominated for 16 Tony Awards and won three for best scenic design for Pippin, The House of Blue Leaves, and Guys and Dolls, and an Emmy for outstanding art direction for a miniseries or movie for Death Of A Salesman.

His career spanned five decades in film, television, and theater, and he was well-known in the United States for his work on Broadway.

Alec Baldwin paid tribute to Walton on Instagram, posting a snapshot of him and told fans, ‘My friend Tony has left us.’

‘A few years ago, he directed me in EQUUS at @guild hall. I’m guessing he’s now having lunch with Nichols. Plotting. Tony, may you rest in peace.’

Walton’s death was also announced on his official website, which included a list of some of the awards he received over the course of his illustrious career.

He was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on Mary Poppins, The Boy Friend, The Wiz, and Murder on the Orient Express, among other films.

Walton was born on October 24, 1935, in Walton-on-Thames, England, and studied art and design at the Slade School of Fine Art in London.

In addition to his Broadway career, he spent ten years as the production designer for Madison Square Garden’s A Christmas Carol and was inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame in 1991.

Moses J. Moseley’s family believes he was kidnapped and murdered on The Walking Dead.

Walton and Dame Julie Andrews were childhood sweethearts who married in 1959 and remained friends after their divorce in 1968.

Walton leaves behind his wife, novelist Genevieve LeRoy Walton, two daughters, Emma Walton Hamilton and Bridget LeRoy, and five grandchildren.
