…By Alan Peterson for TDPel Media. A distressing incident occurred at the Splash Landing Water Park in Alton Towers, leaving a mother, Lorraine Carter, furious and upset.
Lorraine had taken her five children to the water park when she noticed a man filming and taking photographs around the pools, including the area where her children were playing.
Concerned about the man’s actions, the water park’s security intervened and called the attention of Staffordshire Police.
They requested the man to cease filming, but he failed to comply with the rules and was subsequently escorted off the premises.
Lorraine described the situation, saying, “We were enjoying our day and sitting by a pool when it became very evident that a man was recording on his phone camera.”
The man, appearing to be in his late 30s or early 40s, was dressed in black Speedos and unaccompanied.
He brazenly walked into the children’s pool, ignoring the lifeguard’s whistle.
According to Lorraine, the man continued to wander around the water park, capturing videos of various children and their families.
Alarmed by his actions, she alerted multiple lifeguards as he made his way through the complex.
Despite the lifeguards’ attempts to intervene, the man persisted.
Lorraine’s husband decided to confront the man directly and demanded that he stop filming.
Finally, the man complied, marking the first time he ceased his recording. Lorraine and other parents present were deeply upset and angered by the incident.
A supervisor at the water park intervened, pulling the man out of the water and reprimanding him.
The man tried to blame a language barrier but was informed that filming was strictly prohibited.
The park’s manager spoke to Lorraine, informing her of the actions taken against the man.
Lorraine estimated that the man had been filming for approximately 10 minutes before the situation was resolved. Out of concern for her children’s safety, she also contacted the police to report the incident.
According to Staffordshire Police, the man was approached by Alton Towers security and deleted the videos in their presence.
The man claimed to be a travel vlogger visiting from France.
Alton Towers Resort, in response to the incident, emphasized the importance of guest safety and privacy.
Their management and security teams conducted a thorough investigation and ultimately expelled the individual from the premises for violating the park’s filming guidelines.
The police also attended the scene and determined that all necessary procedures had been followed, and no further action was deemed necessary.
A spokesperson from Staffordshire Police confirmed the sequence of events, stating, “We received a report at 4:20 PM on Tuesday (30 May) regarding a man taking film/photographs at the Alton Towers Waterpark.
The security team at Alton Towers spoke to the man, who was visiting from France.
They reviewed the content and found no additional concerns.
The man voluntarily deleted all waterpark content from his phone in front of the security team, who subsequently asked him to leave the waterpark.”
