Monique Muller, known for her connection to media personality Katlego Maboe, has recently opened up about the troubling experiences she faced during their relationship.
Sharing her story through social media, she posted images that allegedly depict the physical abuse she endured at Katlego’s hands.
This revelation comes amid a broader conversation about gender-based violence in South Africa.
Advocacy and Support
As a gender-based violence activist, Monique didn’t just share her personal story; she also defended the NGO Women For Change.
This organization played a pivotal role in her healing process, providing her with legal counsel and emotional support during a difficult time.
Monique took to her Instagram Stories to voice her concerns about a petition aimed at banning Chris Brown, a convicted abuser, from entering South Africa.
She emphasized that while people might want to support their favorite artists, it’s crucial to recognize the harmful behavior they sometimes embody.
A Message to the Public
“What’s happening to Women For Change is horrific,” Monique expressed.
“They’re doing so much important work in our country.”
She urged followers to reflect on their priorities, highlighting that many people are eager to fight for someone irrelevant to their lives while overlooking the real struggles faced by victims of abuse.
“Women live this every day,” she reminded her audience.
In her Instagram posts, Monique shared graphic images of her alleged abuse, stating, “I used to be embarrassed by these images… until I realized the shame was never mine to carry.”
This powerful statement reflects her transformation from a victim to a survivor, showcasing her strength in overcoming her past trauma.
The Fight for Justice
Monique continued to advocate for victims by acknowledging the deep emotional scars that abuse can leave behind.
“Evidence is not enough,” she stated, stressing that the trauma often persists long after the physical acts.
“Remember that the next time you stand up for an abuser. I was a victim, and I survived; I’ve got battle scars.”
Despite reaching out for comments from Katlego, no response has been received at the time of publishing.
Clarifying the Legal Situation
In a recent interview, Sabrina Walter, the founder of Women For Change, addressed claims from Katlego Maboe’s legal team that he had been acquitted of the charges against him.
She clarified, “The case was set aside by agreement. The ruling wasn’t about no grounds, and it was also not withdrawn. He was never acquitted of those charges.”
This statement underscores the ongoing complexity surrounding the legal narratives associated with the case.
A Viral Confession
Back in 2020, a video surfaced showing Katlego confessing to cheating on Monique during their relationship.
Alongside infidelity, Monique accused him of giving her an STI and physically abusing her, leading to a protection order against him.
While Katlego admitted to the affair, he denied any claims of physical assault.
Following these allegations, Katlego initiated legal action against Monique, her brother Seth Muller, and Sabrina Walters for R1 million each, claiming they had “ruined” his career.
However, in 2022, their lawsuits were mutually “set aside,” and Katlego made a comeback as the host of Expresso in August 2023.
Looking Forward
As the narrative continues to unfold, Monique Muller stands as a testament to resilience, using her voice to advocate for change and support other victims of abuse.
The conversation around gender-based violence is more critical than ever, urging society to reflect on the issues at hand and the importance of supporting survivors.
