Mark Carnevale, Former PGA Tour Champion and Esteemed Broadcaster, Passes Away Suddenly in Maryland at 64 Years Old

The golf world has lost a cherished figure with the passing of Mark Carnevale, who died unexpectedly at the age of 64.

This news was confirmed by the PGA Tour this week. Carnevale, known for his impactful career as both a player and broadcaster, left us on Monday, though the cause of his death remains undisclosed.

Mark Carnevale first made a name for himself when he won the Rookie of the Year title in 1992 after clinching the Chattanooga Classic.

Over the years, he became a beloved member of the PGA Tour family, known not only for his playing prowess but also for his engaging presence in broadcasting.

Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan reflected on Carnevale’s impact: “Mark was a cherished member of the TOUR family for many years.

He not only achieved the status of a PGA TOUR winner but also contributed significantly through his various roles, especially as a key voice on PGA TOUR Radio.

His deep knowledge of the game, coupled with his wit and humor, enriched our coverage and connected with fans throughout countless events.”

A Lasting Presence

Carnevale had just covered his final tournament a week ago and was scheduled to be part of this week’s 3M Open in Minnesota.

His career spanned 212 PGA Tour events, with his victory at the Chattanooga Classic being his standout achievement.

After his playing days, he transitioned to the Korn Ferry Tour, where he became the tournament director for the Virginia Beach Open in 2003.

In 2005, Carnevale embraced broadcasting, joining SiriusXM Radio to report on golf events.

His role was pivotal, and Greg Hopfe, PGA TOUR Entertainment’s senior vice president and executive producer, praised him saying, “Mark Carnevale was a vital part of our live coverage on streaming platforms and PGA TOUR Radio.

His professionalism, respected analysis, and humor made a significant impact, and he will be deeply missed by both fans and players alike.”

Mark Carnevale’s contributions to golf will be remembered fondly by many, and his absence will be felt across the sport.
