There’s been quite a stir in the football world lately regarding Manuel Kambala.
Despite making headlines as a new signing for the Mozambican team UD Songo, it turns out that Kambala will actually stay put at Polokwane City for the upcoming season.
UD Songo recently introduced Kambala as one of their latest additions, alongside Luis Miquissone, who previously played for Mamelodi Sundowns.
The announcement from the club was clear: “UD Songo welcomes Manuel Kambala.”
In their statement, UD Songo highlighted Kambala’s recent stints in South Africa with Baroka FC from 2019 to 2022, Magesi FC in 2023, and Polokwane City for the 2023/2024 season.
They were enthusiastic about his return: “Management of Songo Sports Union welcomes Manuel Kambala.”
Despite the fanfare surrounding his move, Kambala has been back in training with Polokwane City since their pre-season return.
This has led to some confusion about his actual status for the upcoming season.
The Contract Dispute
So, why is Kambala staying with Polokwane City despite the announcement? Reports suggest there’s been a clash between Kambala and UD Songo over contract terms.
Unless both sides can find common ground, Kambala is expected to remain with Polokwane City.
He originally joined Polokwane City after a season at Magesi FC. Kambala’s move to South Africa in 2019 came on the recommendation of former Baroka coach Wedson Nyirenda.
Polokwane City’s Transfer Window Activity
As for Polokwane City’s current transfer window, it’s been relatively quiet.
There’s been speculation about losing key players like Oswin Appolis, who has attracted interest from Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.
Right-back Thabang Matuludi, who was part of the Bafana Bafana squad at the recent COSAFA Cup, is also in demand.
The club has already let go of players such as Ndumiso Mabena, Lucky Baloyi, and Given Mashikinya.
