Good news for Manchester United fans: Tyrell Malacia could be back in action within two months.
Erik ten Hag shared this hopeful update about the Holland defender, who was his first signing after joining United.
Malacia, who came from Feyenoord for £14.7 million two years ago, made 39 appearances in his debut season at Old Trafford.
Last season, however, Malacia was sidelined due to double knee surgery, leaving United struggling at left-back during Luke Shaw’s injuries. But now, the 24-year-old Dutchman has resumed training at Carrington.
While most of the squad is on tour in the US, Ten Hag is optimistic that Malacia might be match-ready by October.
“He’s in a good place,” Ten Hag said, hinting that team training and game performance aren’t far off for Malacia.
Rasmus Hojlund’s summer tour in California with Manchester United took an unexpected turn due to a hamstring injury. The Denmark striker was injured during a friendly against Arsenal at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
Now out for six weeks, Hojlund wasted no time in starting his recovery, using a cryotherapy chamber with temperatures dropping to minus 140 degrees Celsius.
Hojlund found humor in the situation, posting a picture of himself in the chamber with the caption: “Don’t worry. In Scandinavia, we call this summer.”
The injury means he’ll miss the rest of United’s US tour, the Community Shield against Manchester City, and likely the first three Premier League games of the season.
However, there’s hope for his return by mid-September, post the international break.
Leny Yoro’s Setback
Leny Yoro, who recently joined Manchester United from Lille for £59 million, suffered a setback with a broken metatarsal. The injury, occurring just two weeks after his transfer, will keep the teenage Frenchman out for three months.
United staff are looking on the bright side, believing this time off will help Yoro settle into life in England and adapt to the club, ensuring he’s fully prepared for action in November.
Yoro sustained the injury in an innocuous tangle with Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
After receiving treatment on the pitch, Yoro limped off in the 33rd minute of what was only his second appearance for United.
Team Bonding in Beverly Hills
During Manchester United’s US tour, the club’s new leadership team has been actively engaging with the players.
New chief executive Omar Berrada, club director Sir Dave Brailsford, sporting director Dan Ashworth, and technical director Jason Wilcox have been visible behind the scenes, dining with the squad at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills.
This initiative aims to foster a sense of togetherness on the first tour since the Ineos investment under Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
To further encourage team bonding and avoid cliques, the club opted for one long dining table instead of several smaller round ones, promoting more interaction among the players.
