Mike Tyson’s taunter has an extensive criminal background.

The man who mocked Mike Tyson on a plane and was later beaten by the former boxer had a long criminal record.

After his run-in with the retired heavyweight champion, Melvin Townsend, the 36-year-old guy who was punched on the plane, had his criminal background made public.

Townsend was found guilty of fraud, grand theft, burglary, possession of prohibited narcotics, and trafficking in stolen items, according to TMZ.

The Florida man was sentenced to two periods of imprisonment, the first for 20 months and the second for 15 months.

Mike Tyson is seen punching Townsend on a Jet Blue flight from San Francisco International Airport to Miami in video footage that has gone viral.

This came after Townsend harassed the 55-year-old actress on a regular basis.

“Unfortunately, Mr. Tyson had an issue on a flight with an aggressive customer who began bothering him and hurled a water bottle at him while he was in his seat,” Mike’s rep told USA TODAY Sports.

Tyson has not been charged as a result of his actions on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Mike Tyson’s long criminal record has been brought to light.

In an interview in 2020, the father of seven confessed that he had a difficult childhood and had been arrested 40 times by the time he was 12 years old.

He admitted to the IMPAULSIVE podcast that he was frequently apprehended for petty offenses such as “burglaries, pick-pocketing, and grabbing valuables.”

He said: β€œI didn’t want to let my mother down. My mother really did a lot. Always going to police stations to get my a** out. She would beat my a** so bad, in front of the police. I’ve been arrested 40 times before I was 12.

β€œMy mother was so humble and proud and I was arrogant.”

Mike Tyson was then introduced to a boxing trainer, who assisted him in developing a passion for the sport.

Robin Givens divorced Mike in 1989, claiming the boxer had subjected her to “unspeakable violence,” both verbal and physical. The couple had only been married for eight months.

Mike Tyson was found guilty of rapping Desiree Washington, an 18-year-old Miss Black America finalist, in 1991. He was imprisoned for three years.

Tyson, on the other hand, maintains his innocence. “I did not rape Desiree Washington,” he said in his 2013 autobiography Undisputed Truth: My Autobiography.

“She knows it, God knows it, and she’ll have to deal with the repercussions of her conduct for the rest of her life.”
