Deadly Assault in Broad Daylight
In a horrifying incident that unfolded around the Federal Low Cost area in Makurdi, Benue State, a retired nurse, Mrs. Esther Amali, and her housemaid, Mercy Mwuese, fell victim to a fatal stabbing perpetrated by an intruder on Sunday, January 14, 2024.
At approximately 4:30 pm, tragedy struck as a man entered the residence and launched a brutal attack on the housemaid, who was in her 20s, while the retired nurse was away.
Conflicting Motives Emerge
The motives behind the assailant’s invasion have conflicting versions. One narrative suggests a connection to a rival cultist impregnating the housemaid, leading to the fatal confrontation.
Another version revolves around a misunderstanding between the housemaid and the attacker regarding the paternity of her baby.
Persistent Warnings and Violent Entry
Sources reveal that the suspected murderer had repeatedly cautioned the housemaid against associating his friend with the pregnancy.
Scaling a fence to gain access to the house while the retired nurse was absent, the attacker initiated the violent assault.
Desperate Pleas and Escalating Horror
As the attacker stabbed the housemaid, the retired nurse returned to the horrifying scene, pleading with the assailant to stop.
Despite Mama’s desperate pleas, the assailant continued the assault, stabbing both victims multiple times.
Escape and Tragic Outcome
The assailant managed to escape before help arrived. Neighbors swiftly organized transportation to convey the injured victims, but, tragically, the retired nurse succumbed to her injuries before reaching the hospital.
Remains Deposited, Child Left Behind
The deceased’s bodies have been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre in Makurdi, while a neighbor has taken custody of the baby left behind by the housemaid. The community now grapples with the aftermath of this brutal and senseless act.
