Luke Littler’s New Ambition: Owning a Football Club
Luke Littler, the world darts champion, is ready to take on a new challenge—buying a football club.
The 19-year-old has made it clear that he’s keen on following in the footsteps of other celebrities who have ventured into football ownership, such as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
These Hollywood stars have made a mark in the football world by taking ownership of Wrexham, a club in League One.
His Eye is on a National League North Team
Even though Littler’s star power is growing after winning his first world darts title and becoming a millionaire last year, he’s not aiming for top-tier football clubs just yet.
Instead, the darts sensation has set his sights on a more local club, specifically Warrington Town, which plays in the National League North.
In a recent video for Specsavers’ “Best Worst Team,” Littler shared that owning the team could be a great investment for the future.
He explained, “It would be an investment for myself in the coming years.
I’ve got a local team—Warrington Town, who are in National League North… Maybe that could be an idea for the future.”
Following in the Footsteps of Celebrity Owners
Littler’s decision to focus on a National League North team isn’t too far off from what other celebrities have done.
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have led Wrexham to impressive successes, securing consecutive promotions and even earning a spot in the League One play-off places.
But they aren’t the only ones.
NBA legend LeBron James has a minority stake in Liverpool, and NFL icon Tom Brady has taken an interest in Birmingham City.
Former NFL player J.J. Watt and his wife are also minority investors at Burnley, which shows that sports stars from different disciplines are increasingly looking to invest in football.
A Passion for Football and Rugby
Littler’s interests don’t stop at football, though.
He’s also a big fan of rugby league and supports the Warrington Wolves.
In fact, he’s set to attend their opening Super League match against Catalans Dragons on February 21.
The club recently announced they will rename their stadium to “Luke Littler Stadium,” honoring his growing presence in the sports world.
It looks like Littler is ready to bring his competitive spirit to a new field, with football possibly being his next big play!
