A community is mourning the loss of a beloved nurse after a devastating accident outside a Tesco supermarket.
Kathleen Nicol, affectionately known as Kathy to her friends and family, was walking through the car park on Baths Road in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, when she was struck by a van.
This unfortunate event occurred on Tuesday, and despite being rushed to the hospital, the 61-year-old passed away the following day.

The news of Kathy’s passing has sparked an outpouring of tributes from those who knew her.

One friend shared, “Oh my lovely friend and ex-night buddy Kathy. I hope you’re at peace with the angels. A beautiful lady with her warm nature, she was a fantastic midwife and nurse.

Staffordshire Police are investigating the incident and have confirmed that the driver of the van remained at the scene to assist authorities.
A police spokesperson shared, “We can sadly confirm that a woman has died following a collision outside a supermarket in Stoke-on-Trent.”
They further detailed that officers were called shortly before noon on Tuesday to respond to the collision involving a pedestrian and a van.
Kathleen, referred to as Kathy by her loved ones, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but tragically succumbed the next day.
Specially-trained officers have been assigned to support her family during this challenging time.
The police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward, providing a contact number for tips.
