Lifa Gqosha’s Advice to Kaizer Chiefs: Skip Thembinkosi Lorch
Former Kaizer Chiefs player, Lifa Gqosha, has some strong opinions about the club’s potential move for Thembinkosi Lorch.
Despite Lorch’s talent, Gqosha believes Amakhosi should steer clear of signing the 31-year-old winger.
Lorch’s Struggles at Mamelodi Sundowns
Lorch, who made the switch from Orlando Pirates to Mamelodi Sundowns last year, has found it tough to get into form.
With a new coach at Sundowns, rumors are swirling that he could be put on the transfer list.
This opens the door for Kaizer Chiefs, who are keen to strengthen their squad in the second half of the season.
Gqosha’s Concerns About Signing Lorch
Gqosha, however, feels that Lorch may have already passed his peak.
Speaking to KickOff, he expressed concerns about the idea of signing players over 30 years old, especially with the club looking to build for the future.
“Are we becoming a retirement village?” he asked, hinting that the team might be focusing too much on experienced players.
While experience is important, he believes Kaizer Chiefs should invest in younger talent for long-term growth.
Is Lorch’s Age a Problem for Kaizer Chiefs?
Gqosha further questioned whether a team can truly be built around players aged 30 and above.
“At his age, how long can Lorch maintain his form?” he wondered.
While acknowledging Lorch’s skills, he argued that the club already has enough experienced players and should be looking at younger prospects to secure their future.
Why Gqosha Says “No” to Lorch
Gqosha, drawing from his own playing experience, acknowledged that some players might be eager to prove themselves or simply want to capitalize on financial opportunities.
However, he doesn’t believe that bringing Lorch in would address Kaizer Chiefs’ current issues.
“For me, it’s a definite ‘no’,” he concluded.
Lorch’s History with Kaizer Chiefs
During his time at Orlando Pirates, Lorch became a headache for Kaizer Chiefs, scoring seven goals against them between 2015 and 2024.
But even with his past success, Gqosha remains unconvinced that Lorch is the right fit for Chiefs now.
