Les Snead Hints at Potential Matthew Stafford Trade as Rams GM Opens Door to Offseason Deal in Los Angeles

In an unexpected turn of events, Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead has sparked rumors about the future of quarterback Matthew Stafford.

After a challenging loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional round of the playoffs, Snead opened the door to the possibility of Stafford leaving the team.

Snead Doesn’t Rule Out Stafford’s Departure

Stafford, who is currently considering retirement, still has two years left on his contract with the Rams, which will see him earn a reported $103 million.

However, with a $4 million bonus coming up in mid-March, the Rams will need to make a decision sooner rather than later, potentially leading to a trade.

When asked about Stafford’s future, Snead didn’t close the door on a trade, instead suggesting that it was something that could unfold in the near future.

“I think it’s important to address any trade-related concerns quickly to avoid making it a long-running issue throughout the offseason,” Snead said.

“Whether it’s us reaching out or someone calling, those are things that will be figured out down the line.”

Rams’ Prior Experience with Contract Adjustments

This isn’t the first time the Rams have had to navigate a tricky situation with Stafford.

Last offseason, the team adjusted Stafford’s contract just as players were reporting to training camp.

Coach Sean McVay has emphasized the importance of resolving any uncertainty around Stafford’s future without dragging it out.

“We don’t want to go through that again,” McVay remarked.

“It’s better for everyone if we can have clear and open communication sooner rather than later.”

Stafford’s Future in Limbo

Despite leading the Rams to a Super Bowl victory in 2022, Stafford has left his future up in the air.

Following the tough playoff loss, the 36-year-old did not rule out retirement, but he remains optimistic about his ability to continue playing at a high level.

“I sure feel like I’m playing good football,” Stafford shared.

However, he also acknowledged that he needed some time before making a final decision about his career.

“It’s only been 30 minutes since the last game,” he said, “so I’m going to take some time to think about it.”
