LEAP Africa Launches the 2025 Youth Leadership Development Programme for Nigerian Undergraduates to Foster Change in Communities

Nigerian youths are eager to make a difference, ready to take the lead and bring about positive change in their communities and beyond

. But there’s an important question: do they have the right skills, knowledge, and guidance to take on leadership roles effectively? Are there models they can look up to, and do they fully understand what it takes to first lead themselves before leading others?

LEAP Africa’s Youth Leadership Development Programme

To help bridge this gap, LEAP Africa has created the Youth Leadership Development Programme, designed specifically for undergraduates in Nigerian tertiary institutions.

The goal is to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and resources they need to actively contribute to nation-building, community development, and policy advocacy.

If you’re a Nigerian undergraduate passionate about driving change and tackling national issues, this could be your opportunity! The Nigerian Youth Futures Fund Youth Leadership Development Programme 2025 is looking for passionate individuals like you to become advocates for social change!

Thematic Focus Areas for 2025 Cohort

This year, the 2025 Cohort focuses on two key areas of change: Facilitating Good Governance and Resolving Fundamental National Questions.

If you’re interested in joining, you can submit a project proposal under one of these themes.

Facilitating Good Governance

  • Transparency & Accountability in Governance: Do you have a project that can help your community demand accountability from local leaders?
  • Voter Education: With national elections approaching in 2027, how well do your community members understand their rights as voters? Are your peers aware of the election processes on your campus, and what can be improved?
  • National Policy Engagement: Do your peers know about the National Youth Policy? Are there policy changes you can advocate for in your community or school? What can you do to bring about meaningful policy changes?
  • Social Media Advocacy: How would you leverage digital platforms to highlight governance issues and encourage student participation in university and national policy decisions?

Resolving Fundamental National Questions

  • Group Conflict Resolution & Peacebuilding: Do you have an idea for a project that can help resolve community conflicts or foster peace within your area?
  • Gender & Social Inclusion: Can you propose a project that advocates for inclusive policies in your community or on your campus?
  • Civic Rights Awareness: How can your project help community members understand their rights? Can it aid students facing injustice within or outside their campuses?
