KZN floods: Charlize Theron launches fundraiser for relief aid

Early last week, KZN was rocked by heavy downpours which displaced thousands of people and destroyed major infrastructure.

Almost 450 people have died while over 60 are reported missing. The devastating floods are said to be the worst to ever hit the coastal province.

The National Treasury has set aside a minimum of R1 billion for areas ravaged by the floods in the province.

“My home of South Africa is going through an extraordinarily difficult time, and while I know much of the world is in pain right now, and a lot is being asked of us as global citizens, I’m hoping you’ll find it in your heart to help,” Theron said.

Theron also said for her organisation, the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP) they see the most critical role as supporting their partners in whatever challenges they face.

“Right now organisations in KZN are reeling, trying to support their communities however they can, as affected families desperately need food, water, and shelter.

“To bring immediate support & resources to those in the region, CTAOP created an easy way for everyone to give. 100% of these funds will go directly to this effort – NO fees.”

SOLIDARITY FUND ROPED IN TO ASSIST

The Solidarity Fund has been roped in to help with the provision resources to flood-ravaged areas in KZN.

This incudes financial support to areas in KZN and other parts of the country affected by destructive weather.

The Solidarity Fund was established at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic and has also helped in responding to the aftermath of the July unrests.
