Renowned journalist and presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy, aged 53, is set to grace the dance floor as a contestant in the latest series of the popular BBC ballroom contest, Strictly Come Dancing.

Paired with professional dancer Lauren Oakley, Krishnan shared a personal detail about his health during an appearance on Good Morning Britain.

Genetic Heart Condition in the Family

Krishnan Guru-Murthy disclosed, “I’ve got a genetic heart condition, it’s in the family.” While he remains enthusiastic about the competition, he acknowledges the need to exercise caution.

He explained, “It just means I have to be a little bit careful about getting into the red zone of your heart rate.” However, he reassured, “It doesn’t mean I can’t go to the gym, it doesn’t mean I can’t dance.”

Heart Rate Limitations and Dance Duration

The discussion on Good Morning Britain touched upon Krishnan’s heart rate limitations.

Host Richard Madeley inquired whether it meant his heart rate couldn’t exceed a certain level for an extended period.

Krishnan clarified, “It’s not that it can’t, it is if it stays very high for 10 minutes then it would be…” Lauren, his dance partner, chimed in with humor, “None of our dances are 10 minutes long, so that’s lucky!”

A Journey of Joy Amidst Tough Times

Krishnan Guru-Murthy also shared the reasons behind his decision to join Strictly Come Dancing.

He revealed that the past few years had been challenging, marked by the coronavirus pandemic, the conflict in Ukraine, and political turmoil.

“I suddenly realized this is kind of an opportunity just to have a real laugh and a lot of joy in life alongside all that,” he said.

He emphasized the sheer enjoyment of the experience, stating, “And you’d be stupid to say no!”

A Dance of Joy and Smiles

For Krishnan Guru-Murthy, his participation in Strictly Come Dancing is not about reinventing himself but about having “great fun.”

He enthusiastically declared, “I’m going to smile quite a lot,” promising viewers a journey filled with positivity and happiness.

No Strictly Curse Worries for Krishnan and Lauren

During their appearance on Good Morning Britain, Krishnan and Lauren addressed the “Strictly curse” concerns.

Both happily married, they assured that any dance chemistry would remain on the dance floor.

With laughter, they made it clear, “Not together!”
