It’s often said that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, but for some former Kaizer Chiefs players, it seems to be.
These players have found success after leaving the club, with some enjoying not only career growth but also impressive financial gains.
Knowledge Musona’s Financial Success in Saudi Arabia
Knowledge Musona, once a star at Kaizer Chiefs, is currently making waves in the Saudi Pro League, where he now plays for Al Okhdood.
His journey after leaving the Chiefs saw him joining clubs like Al Tai and Al Riyadh, where he thrived both on and off the field.
Reports suggest that Musona is earning around R10 million annually in his current role, which is a considerable figure, especially in the later years of his career.
A report from Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad revealed that Musona was making R18.85 million per year as of 2020, excluding bonuses.
Known for his attacking midfielder role at Al Tai, Musona contributed significantly to the team, scoring eight goals and providing nine assists in 29 appearances in the Saudi Pro League.
His move to Al Riyadh marked another big leap in his career, and he remains Kaizer Chiefs’ record departure after his transfer to Hoffenheim in 2011, which brought the club €1.5 million (R29 million).
Puso Dithejane’s Growth at TS Galaxy
Puso Dithejane’s departure from Kaizer Chiefs may have been marked by controversy, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
Dithejane, alongside Unathi Mdaka, was released by the Chiefs in October 2023 due to misconduct concerning ball-boy duties.
Since moving to TS Galaxy, Dithejane has flourished in the number 10 role and has also showcased his ability to play across the right flank.
His contributions were key in TS Galaxy’s sixth-place finish in the previous season, and this season, he’s made 10 league appearances, scoring a goal and assisting another.
Reflecting on his departure from Chiefs, Dithejane told Sunday World, “I can say that leaving Chiefs at that point in my career was a blessing in disguise. Now, I am making a name for myself.”
He credited TS Galaxy’s chairman, Mr. Tim Sukazi, for offering him the opportunity to rebuild his career.
Dithejane also expressed gratitude to his coaches and teammates for their support during his transition.
Siyabonga Ngezana’s Potential Big Move
Another former Chiefs player, Siyabonga Ngezana, is making headlines with his potential move abroad
. The central defender, once a regular at Kaizer Chiefs, was never always a first-choice pick but has proven his worth after joining FCSB.
He now plays in the prestigious Champions League and has emerged as one of Chiefs’ most valuable departures, with FCSB paying €600k (R11.6 million) for his services.
Reports from Romania suggest that Ngezana’s future at FCSB is uncertain, with two prominent European clubs showing strong interest.
Italian Serie A club Lecce and English Championship side Birmingham are reportedly in a battle to secure Ngezana’s services, with both clubs willing to offer a hefty €5 million (around R100 million) for his signature.
Ngezana’s rise has been impressive, and he may be on the verge of another significant move in his career.
