Kia Australia issues a recall for two of its most popular vehicles: the Sportage mid-size SUV and the Sorento seven-seat SUV.

In Australia, tens of thousands of SUVs are being recalled owing to a potential software flaw that might cause the vehicle to overheat and catch fire.

Kia Australia has issued a recall for two of its most popular vehicles: the Sportage mid-size SUV and the Sorento seven-seat SUV.

The recall affects SUV vehicles manufactured between 2015 and 2021 for the Sportage and 2014 to 2020 for the Sorento.

Affected motorists are advised not to drive their vehicles until the problem is resolved, according to the company.

The fix will take about ’45 minutes to complete,’ according to Kia.

The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, and Communications issued a recall notice.

‘Due to a software issue, the Heater Core Element may operate at a higher than intended temperature causing damage to connector,’ it read.

‘If this occurs, it may result in a vehicle fire.’

‘A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants or other road use

Affected Kia Sportage and Sorento owners should make an appointment with their local Kia shop as soon as possible to address the problem, according to the warning.

The HVAC control unit software will be updated, and the heater core element and connector will be inspected.

‘The Heater Core Element and connector should also be checked for damage and replaced if necessary,’ Kia noted.

There have been no reports of deaths or injuries as a result of the software flaw.
