Kevin De Bruyne made his return to Manchester City for pre-season training this week, but he showed up with a surprising twist.
The Belgian midfielder, who’s now 33, arrived at the Etihad Campus flaunting a brand-new hairstyle that had fans talking.
His new look was reminiscent of his teammate Erling Haaland’s signature top knot, though not an exact match.
The City media team captured De Bruyne’s entrance in a video, showcasing him strolling from the car park to the main building. In the clip, someone off-camera calls out, “oooooo top knot,” to which De Bruyne jokingly replies, “I need to cut my hair.”
The internet quickly noticed the resemblance to Haaland’s hairstyle.
Social media was abuzz with comments, including one Instagram post dubbing him “Erling Bruyne” and another noting, “Haaland effect is really effective.” One fan even tweeted that De Bruyne looked like a “handsome version of Haaland.”
A Pattern of Hair Copycatting
This isn’t the first time De Bruyne has sported a look similar to one of his teammates. During the 2023-24 season, after returning from an injury, he was seen with a hairstyle reminiscent of Jack Grealish’s.
Looking Ahead
Although De Bruyne hasn’t played a single minute in City’s pre-season matches, he might still make an appearance in the upcoming Community Shield match against Manchester United this Saturday. This match will be a repeat of last season’s FA Cup final, which United won 2-1. City will then kick off their Premier League title defense with a trip to Chelsea the following week.
