Fox News personality Kat Timpf recently shared some personal and unexpected news with her followers.
The 36-year-old host revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer just hours before giving birth to her first child.
In a heartfelt Instagram post on Tuesday, Timpf opened up about her diagnosis, explaining that she received the news just before going into labor. “Last week, I welcomed my first child into the world.
About fifteen hours before I went into labor, I was diagnosed with breast cancer,” she shared.
Despite the shocking timing, her doctors have informed her that it’s stage zero cancer and are confident that it has not spread.
A Flood of Well-Wishes—and Unsolicited Advice
Naturally, Timpf’s announcement prompted an outpouring of support, but it also came with a lot of unsolicited medical advice.
On Friday, she addressed the overwhelming response in a post on X, expressing gratitude for the kindness shown but also acknowledging how the flood of suggestions had become a bit too much.
“I really do appreciate all the support, it means so much to me.
This is a crazy, difficult, unexpected time,” she said in a video. “But I’ve also been overwhelmed with… I guess you could say, medical advice?”
Timpf went on to mention some of the well-meaning, but sometimes misplaced, comments.
Some people shared their personal stories about a loved one’s stage-zero diagnosis, suggesting that a double mastectomy might not be necessary for her situation.
Addressing Criticism of Her Treatment Plan
Timpf has decided to undergo a double mastectomy, and some of the feedback she received criticized this decision.
Some viewers questioned her doctor’s advice, with a few claiming that a less invasive option, like a lumpectomy, would be sufficient.
“I just want to say, trust me, there’s no one for whom that seems more extreme than me,” Timpf said.
“I don’t take cutting my t*** off lightly. I don’t think any woman does. It’s devastating.
But I am grateful for the medical team guiding me through this.”
While the procedure is undoubtedly difficult, Timpf emphasized that her medical team is composed of experts who are focused on making sure she stays healthy and can be there for her son in the long run.
“I’ve been very lucky to have a knowledgeable team, and we’re focused on what’s best for my life and my family,” she explained.
Humor in the Midst of Chaos
In her Instagram post, Timpf also shared some lighthearted moments from the day she received her diagnosis. Despite the heavy news, she used humor to cope with the situation.
“I woke up more-than-a-week-past-due pregnant, completely consumed by doing everything I could to get the baby out,” she wrote.
“By the afternoon, I was waddling around from appointment to appointment, talking about how to get my cancer out.”
Timpf’s sense of humor carried her through the chaos of the day, even as she jokingly asked if she could get a copy of her tumor ultrasound to hang next to the ultrasound of her baby.
A New Reality for Kat Timpf
After months of working through her pregnancy, Timpf confirmed she’s now officially on maternity leave.
While she had originally anticipated a different kind of maternity break, she’s embracing her new reality.
“These next three months of maternity leave are going to look a lot different than I’d expected,” she said.
“But I’m still learning to celebrate everything I can—I’m lucky to be my son’s mom.”
Though her time as a working mom during her pregnancy garnered some criticism, Timpf has always emphasized that she was under the careful supervision of her doctors, who prioritized her health and her baby’s well-being.
“I promise you, both my doctor and I care far more about my health and my baby’s health than any random online stranger does,” she responded to online comments.
“I don’t need unsolicited advice about my health, my belly, or anything else.”
In the face of such challenges, Timpf is staying focused on the positives—being a new mom, her health, and the early detection of her cancer.
“I’m lucky that we found the cancer so early; I’m lucky to be my son’s mom,” she said. “And I’m learning that everything really does have a silver lining—even in the toughest times.”
