The Kaizer Chiefs have introduced a new player to their squad, but he hasn’t stepped onto the field for a match yet.
Will his debut be on the horizon?
Reinventing the Defense
In their opening match, the Chiefs showcased five of their latest signings against Gallants, featuring a nearly completely revamped defense.
Fiacre Ntwari guarded the goal, while Inacio Miguel, Rushwin Dortley, and Bradley Cross formed the new back four.
This same lineup, including right-back Reeve Frosler, took the field again against AmaZulu.
It would be surprising if they didn’t stick together for a third consecutive game when they face Sundowns.
Angolan sensation Miguel solidified his place in the starting lineup by scoring a crucial goal against Usuthu.
The Mystery of Jersey Number 20
Thabo Mokoena, a young central defender born in Roodepoort in 2000, is listed on the Chiefs roster but has yet to make his first-team debut.
With players like Dortley, Miguel, Given Msimango, and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe ahead of him in line for playing time, it seems unlikely he’ll see much action this season.
So, it raises eyebrows that he’s been given the number 20 jersey.
Nabi’s Strong Start as Head Coach
Under new management, the Chiefs have kicked off the season with a bang, winning their first two matches: a 2-1 victory over Gallants and a solid 3-1 win against AmaZulu.
Gaston Sirino has shone in a left-sided attacking midfield role, and Mduduzi Shabalala is gradually making his mark in the number 10 position.
Exciting Matchup Ahead
The Chiefs are gearing up for a significant challenge this Saturday when they host the reigning Betway Premiership champions, Sundowns, in Soweto at 15:00.
Meanwhile, in other Betway Premiership action, Cape Town City will take on SuperSport, and Marumo Gallants will face AmaZulu on the same day.
On Sunday, Orlando Pirates will make their way to Richards Bay, and Stellenbosch will compete against Polokwane City away.
