Kaizer Chiefs’ head coach, Nasreddine Nabi, has shared the latest details about striker Tashreeq Morris’ injury following a disappointing 1-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns over the weekend.
Morris suffered a setback during the match at Lucas Moripe Stadium, and his injury forced him to leave the field in the first half.
He was replaced by Ashley Du Preez, and his absence will be felt in the upcoming fixtures.
Morris Faces Several Days on the Sidelines
Nabi confirmed that Morris is expected to be out for about six to seven days due to the injury.
While the striker’s absence is a significant blow for the team, Nabi acknowledged that despite the loss to Sundowns, there were positive takeaways from their performance, which boosts the team’s morale for the next set of matches.
Morris, who joined Kaizer Chiefs from SuperSport United in January, has had a challenging start at the club, with difficulty finding his form in the four matches he has played so far.
Nabi expressed his frustration over Morris’ injury, emphasizing how crucial the striker’s presence is for the team.
Impact of Morris’ Absence on the Team
The Kaizer Chiefs coach highlighted that Morris offers more than just goal-scoring ability.
“He’s a good presser,” Nabi explained. “
He doesn’t give defenders a lot of rest, and when he’s not on the field, we saw that the center-backs felt a bit more comfortable with the ball.”
Nabi believes that Morris’ ability to hold up the ball also provides an important outlet for the team when building attacks.
Opportunities for Other Players in Morris’ Absence
With Morris sidelined for the upcoming match against Magesi FC on Tuesday evening, Kaizer Chiefs will also be without midfielder Thabo Cele.
However, this will create an opportunity for other players like Ashley Du Preez, Edson Castillo, and Ranga Chivaviro to step up and prove their worth in the absence of two key players.
