Lagos State Governor Sanwo-Olu Unveils Yaba Overpass Bridge
In a significant development for Lagos State’s infrastructure, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu officially commissioned the Yaba Overpass Bridge on Thursday.
This new bridge, which stands as a testament to the state’s commitment to improving transportation, is poised to play a vital role in easing traffic congestion in the region.
The Commissioning Ceremony
The commissioning ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries and prominent figures from the state government and beyond.
Governor Sanwo-Olu arrived at the venue around 12:20 p.m., accompanied by his deputy, Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, and the state All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, who was represented by the deputy chairman.

As the governor made his way to the commissioning venue, he was greeted with warm cheers and praise from the gathered Lagosians.

A Bridge for Improved Connectivity
The Yaba Overpass Bridge, which Governor Sanwo-Olu inaugurated today, is part of a broader initiative to enhance transportation in Lagos State.
This overpass is one of four such projects lined up for commissioning, with the remaining overpasses located at Oyingbo, Mushin, and Ikeja Overpass.
Distinguished Attendees
The commissioning event was graced by a notable list of attendees, including Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, represented by Hon. Ademola Kasumu, Transportation Commissioner Oluwaseun Osiyemi, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa.
The presence of royal figures, led by representatives of the Oba of Lagos, added to the significance of the occasion.
Notable among these royal representatives were Oba Rilwan Akiolu, represented by Opeluwa Onido, Oba Bashiru Oloto, Oloto of Oyo, and the Onisabe of Igbobi-Sabe in Yaba.
Local Leadership and Project Partners
The Chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Kayode Oniyale, led a group of council chairmen who also graced the event.
Furthermore, the presence of Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro, Former High Commissioner to Ghana, the Managing Directors of LAMATA, Engr Abimbola Akinajo, and the Managing Director of Craneburg Construction, Gilbert Sassine, the contractor for the Yaba Overpass Bridge, highlighted the cooperation of various stakeholders in this monumental project.
Representatives of the University of Lagos and Yabatech, key functionaries of the Lagos State government, and other distinguished individuals added to the significance of the occasion.
The commissioning of the Yaba Overpass Bridge marks a milestone in Lagos State’s commitment to improved infrastructure, providing a valuable solution to traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity within the state.
