An important development in the Katlehong Tavern Attack

According to reports, the gunman at the Katlehong Tavern who killed two people there on July 8, 2022, is a metro police officer.

Four armed men reportedly invaded the Mputlane Inn Tavern earlier this month, according to reports.

Six persons were shot, two of whom died at the spot and two of whom were brought to the hospital after they demanded a firearm and started firing at customers at random.

One suspect had been detained, according to the police, and was scheduled to appear before the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Monday, July 25.

Colonel Dimakatso Sello, a police spokesperson, said police are currently looking into the situation and it’s unclear whether more arrests would be made.

Members who may have information pertinent to their investigation are urged to come forward in the interim.

Letlhogonolo Moseki, the City of Johannesburg’s MMC for Community Safety, gave the relatives of the Katlehong pub shooting victims assurances earlier this month that the city would help them obtain justice and see to it that the shooters would be detained and charged.

“We won’t stop until these people are arrested, and they won’t stop until they’re in jail because we’ll never let up because we’ll always be right behind them.”

This type of criminality has no place in our city, thus we must allow it to persist.

“Anyone with information that can aid the police in apprehending and effectively prosecuting individuals responsible for this crime and other crimes throughout the city is encouraged to contact their local SAPS or EMPD unit.

We can stop crime if we work together, Moseki stated.

In a separate shooting, two individuals were killed and seven others were injured in a shooting outside a bar in Ga-Rankuwa, in the Gauteng province, which is north of Pretoria.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Friday, July 22 at around 2:00.

Police claim that unidentified men in a silver polo fired gunfire at pub patrons who were seated at random.

Colonel Dimakatso Sello, the police spokesperson, stated that the shooting’s motivation is currently unknown and that two murder investigations and seven attempted murder cases are under investigation.
