Madrid — Gavi signed a new deal with Barcelona through 2026 in front of thousands of fans at Camp Nou on Thursday. Club president Joan Laporta called it a “historic day.”

The midfielder has a €1 billion release clause despite being a vital player for his club at age 18 and a fixture for Luis Enrique’s Spain.

“Today is a momentous day,” Laporta declared.

“With Gavi, we are renewing Barcelona’s present, immediate present, and future.”

Academy product Gavi, who has played every game for Barcelona this season, scored Spain’s youngest goal at the age of 17 years and 304 days in June 2022.

Gavi stated, “I try to accept things as naturally as possible.”

“La Masia assisted me greatly in this regard, as did the team and staff.

“I am extremely thankful to the chefs and instructors” (at the academy). Since childhood, they instilled in me the values of hard work and humility.
