Consumer Relief: Minister Aims to Shift Infrastructure Costs
During his inspection tour, which included discussions with the management of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, Minister Adelabu expressed his commitment to alleviating consumers from the financial burden of purchasing utilities.
He declared his intention to take corrective action to ensure that the responsibility for these essential infrastructure components rightfully rests with the DISCOs.
Addressing Metering System Dissatisfaction
Minister Adelabu acknowledged the widespread discontent among consumers with the current metering system, particularly the issues surrounding estimated billing.
In response to these concerns, he pledged to implement solutions, including the cancellation of estimated billing. This proposed move could potentially revolutionize the billing system within the power sector.
Ministerial Directive: DISCOs to Provide Essential Infrastructure
In a firm directive, Minister Adelabu stated, “It is the responsibility of the distribution companies to provide transformers, cables, and poles to communities so that power supply can improve.”
He called for an end to situations where communities are compelled to purchase these essential items, reinforcing the federal government’s disapproval of such practices.
Empowering Consumers and Ensuring Quality Service
The minister emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing power supply and ensuring that consumers do not pay for inadequate services.
Adelabu stressed the importance of DISCOs fulfilling their responsibilities, highlighting the government’s successful efforts in Kaduna as a benchmark for improved service delivery.
Government’s Mandate: Prioritizing Service to the People
Minister Adelabu concluded by underscoring the government’s dedication to service delivery, placing paramount importance on meeting the needs of the people.
He emphasized the responsibility entrusted by President Muhammadu Buhari to prioritize the welfare of consumers and ensure equitable and efficient power distribution.
