A Nigeria man took to social media to share his experience about his journey to calabar where he met the only surviving twin saved by Mary slessor  many years ago” he shared

“Mary Slessor was a missionary posted from Scotland to Calabar in Nigeria by the Presbyterian Church in 1876 for a missionary work.

She also lived in Arochukwu Nigeria during her missionary work. Mary Slessor stopped the killing of twins in Nigeria and she achieved this by saving a lot of twins either left in the bush to die or from their homes where their mothers hid them.

One of the twin babies Mary Slessor saved by herself before the killing of twins was finally abolished is Mgbeafor Okereke. I met her in her home in Amasu, Arochukwu, where I had an amazing interaction with her.”

Mary  Slessor was a Scottish Presbyterian missionary who was sent to Nigeria. Once in Nigeria, Mary Slessor learned Efik, one of the numerous local languages in the country , then she began to teach.

Because of her fast understanding of the native language and her bold personality Mary Slessor gained the trust and acceptance of the locals around and was able to spread gospel of  the Christianity while promoting women’s rights and protecting native children and twins

She is most famous for having stopped the common practice of infanticide of twins in Okoyong, an area of Cross River State, Nigeria.
