The decision was made during a plenary session on Tuesday, following a recent incident in which nine individuals were killed and properties were destroyed during an invasion of a community in Mangu Local Government Area.

Resolution for Perpetrator Identification

During the session, a motion of urgent public importance was put forward by Dachung Bagos, the representative of Jos South/North Federal Constituency.

The lower chamber adopted the motion, emphasizing the need for the NSA to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for the killings in Plateau State.

Bagos highlighted the alarming increase in insecurity and loss of innocent lives, particularly within his own constituency.

Worsening Insecurity and Its Consequences

Bagos expressed grave concern over the ongoing attacks and destruction occurring in various parts of Plateau State.

He revealed that crops in farmlands had been completely destroyed, affecting the livelihoods of the people.

He also shared a tragic incident where seven miners from his constituency were brutally killed on July 9, 2023, in Farin Lamba, Jos South LGA.

The overall insecurity situation has left citizens living in fear and unable to access their farmlands, which poses a threat to the region’s food production.

Call for Investigation and Justice

In response to the adopted motion, the House of Representatives requested that the acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun, investigate the killings and ensure that those responsible are held accountable in accordance with the law.

This step aims to address the urgent need for justice and to restore a sense of security within Plateau State.

By taking this action, the House of Representatives aims to tackle the rising insecurity and protect the lives and livelihoods of the people in Plateau State, a vital agricultural hub for food production in the country.
