Kalu, who previously served as the spokesperson for the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, has now taken on this new role.

Nominations and Support for Kalu’s Candidacy

Babajimi Benson from Ikorodu, Lagos State, took the initiative to nominate Kalu for the position of Speaker.

This nomination received the support of Khadijat Bukar Abba Ibrahim from Yobe State, who seconded the motion.

Benson emphasized the importance of this nomination in terms of inclusivity and addressing perceived marginalization within the House.

Unopposed Election and Oath of Office

After calling for additional nominations, none were put forward.

Consequently, the Clerk to the National Assembly declared Kalu elected as the Deputy Speaker.

Following this declaration, the Clerk proceeded to administer the oath of office to Kalu.

Previous Speaker Election

It is worth noting that prior to this event, Tajudeen Abbas had been elected as the Speaker of the 10th National Assembly, defeating Idris Wase and Sani Jaji.
