Golden Arrows Bolster Goalkeeping Roster with Edward Maova Signing from AmaTuks in Durban

Golden Arrows have taken a decisive step in bolstering their goalkeeping squad by signing Edward Maova from AmaTuks.

This move comes as they seek to address recent challenges in the goalkeeper position, aiming for more stability in upcoming seasons.

Recently, the team welcomed back Ugandan goalkeeper Ismail Watenga on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, adding to their goalkeeping options.

Watenga has already begun training with the squad, gearing up for the season ahead.

Additionally, Sifiso Mlungwana and Nkosingiphile Gumede continue to play pivotal roles in the team’s goalkeeping lineup.

Edward Maova, a highly-regarded goalkeeper, was seen at Golden Arrows this week, signaling the finalization of his transfer to the Durban-based club.

He joins as a replacement for Olufemi Kayode, who recently departed the team.

AmaTuks had previously triggered a one-year option on Maova, necessitating Golden Arrows to negotiate with the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Despite interest from clubs like SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs, Maova opted to join Golden Arrows, enhancing their goalkeeping roster significantly.

Golden Arrows’ Transfer Activity and Team Restructuring

Golden Arrows’ transfer activity has been modest, with Keenan Phillips being their sole signing so far.

Phillips joined the club on a free transfer after being unattached for six months following his departure from Moroka Swallows midseason.

In addition to Kayode, the team bid farewell to defender Siyavuya Ndlovu and left-winger Thubelihle Magubane as their contracts expired.

Maova’s arrival is expected to complement Watenga’s return, providing depth and experience in the goalkeeping department.

Future Prospects for Golden Arrows

While focusing on player acquisitions, Golden Arrows are actively seeking a new coach following Steve Komphela’s departure to Mamelodi Sundowns.

The team remains committed to strengthening its roster, as indicated by their pursuit of JDR forward Bongani Cele.

By restructuring both on and off the field, Golden Arrows aim to build a competitive squad capable of achieving their ambitions in the upcoming season.
