Global Peace Development (GPD) is a Nigerian-based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in April 2002.
Its mission is to promote peace, development, and gender equality in Nigeria.
The organization envisions a future where all Nigerians experience peace and development, striving to foster social justice, democracy, and effective governance at the community, state, and national levels.

Opportunity for the 2025 Carol Bellamy Leadership Award
Global Peace Development is excited to announce an open call for applications for the 2025 Carol Bellamy Leadership Award (CBLA), in collaboration with the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF).
This initiative aims to support organizations or individuals that align with the values and objectives of GPD’s peace-building mission.
The CBLA will help further the work of those contributing to community development and women’s empowerment.
Eligibility Criteria for Applicants
To qualify for the award, organizations or individuals must meet the following criteria:
- Be legally registered in Nigeria and operate in one of the following states: Yobe, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa, Nasarawa, Abuja, or Taraba.
- Have previous experience in project implementation, particularly in peace-building, community development, or gender equality.
- Demonstrate a proven track record of accountability, transparency, and sound financial management practices.
- Possess the capacity to implement and monitor community-based interventions effectively.
Application Instructions
Interested individuals or organizations should submit their applications via email.
Applicants need to provide:
- A detailed plan (up to 2 pages) or a video (up to 5 minutes) explaining how they would utilize the $2,000 CBLA award.
- The application must clearly specify which pillar(s) the proposed project aligns with.
The available pillars include:
- Pillar 1: Supporting the development of small, women-led grassroots organizations through critical means such as training, office operations, or technology upgrades.
- Pillar 2: Developing leadership skills and promoting the inclusion of women in leadership positions.
- Pillar 3: Supporting women from communities vulnerable to violent extremism (VE) to establish or run their existing initiatives.
Required Application Questions
Applicants should address the following questions in their submissions:
- What is your background or your organization’s background?
- How will you utilize the 2024-2025 CBLA award if you are selected?
- How will the CBLA support your efforts toward women’s empowerment?
- Which pillar(s) does your project align with and why?
- How will your project contribute to the prevention of violent extremism?
- Are you officially registered as a civil society organization? (If so, provide the official registration documents.)
Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed by GPD. The process will include a due diligence check on the selected applicants. GPD will then award the 2025 CBLA to the successful candidate.
Additional Requirements
- Awardees will need to submit progress summaries halfway through and at the end of the implementation process.
- Only women-led organizations or individual women are eligible to apply for this award.
