A shocking incident unfolded in Limpopo when a police officer from Gauteng was arrested for possession of drugs and a suspected stolen vehicle on Wednesday, 19 March 2025.
The arrest took place during a well-coordinated intelligence operation led by the Provincial Anti-Smuggling Unit in collaboration with Tshimollo private security.
Swift Action Leads to Arrest on the N1 South Freeway
The officer, a constable with the Silverton Detectives unit, was intercepted along the N1 South freeway near Polokwane.
Authorities discovered that he was carrying a significant amount of nyaope, a dangerous drug, with 2,095 sachets valued at an estimated R85,000.
The officer was also found driving a Nissan NP200, which had Gauteng registration plates, raising suspicions that the vehicle may have been stolen.
Authorities Confiscate Weapon and Begin Investigation
During the arrest, which occurred near Shell Ultra City, law enforcement also seized the officer’s service pistol.
The arrest of the 44-year-old police officer has been widely acknowledged by local authorities, with Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, commending the swift actions of the officers involved.

This arrest has raised concerns about the involvement of a law enforcement officer in such criminal activities.
The suspect is currently in the custody of the SAPS Westernburg authorities, as investigations continue into the full extent of the officer’s actions.
