Birthday Celebration Turns Tragic
Emmanuel Odunlami, a 32-year-old music industry professional, met a tragic end while celebrating his birthday at Haz restaurant in London.
A gang of muggers targeted him for a suspected £125,000 Patek Philippe watch, escalating the celebration into a fatal encounter.
Valuable Watch or Tragic Irony?
The muggers, allegedly armed with knives, targeted Odunlami after a security guard, Kavindu Hettarachchi, noticed the luxury Patek Philippe Nautilus watch he was wearing.
Ironically, prosecutors revealed suspicions that the watch might have been fake, raising questions about the motive behind the violent attack.
Gang Faces Legal Consequences
Jordell Menzies, Quincy Ffrench, Louis Vandrose, and Hettarachchi, identified as associates involved in the robbery, are now facing legal consequences.
Menzies, admitting to manslaughter and robbery but denying murder, was convicted after a retrial. Ffrench, Vandrose, and Hettarachchi were found guilty of manslaughter in the first trial, while Antonios Kfoury was convicted of perverting the course of justice.
Attempted Robbery Turns Deadly
The assailants orchestrated the attack after Hettarachchi sent photos of Odunlami wearing the watch to his associates. The muggers confronted Odunlami outside the restaurant, with Menzies stabbing him in the heart.
Despite the victim’s attempts to flee, Menzies caught up, fatally injuring him. Ffrench and Vandrose, involved in the robbery, were cleared of murder but convicted of manslaughter.
The Aftermath and Legal Proceedings
Following the brutal incident, Kfoury, who worked as a security guard, attempted to cover up the crime by providing false information to the police.
The court convicted Kfoury of perverting the course of justice. The sentencing is yet to be scheduled as the legal proceedings unfold in the aftermath of this tragic event.
