Former Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, has held a meeting with the National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as part of his campaign to become the 10th Senate President.
Yari’s Commitment to the Nigerian Project
During the meeting, Yari emphasized his commitment to the Nigerian project and stated that the country’s Constitution remains supreme.
He expressed his belief that the Constitution will prevail and vowed to engage with relevant stakeholders to garner support for his bid.
Encouragement from the President’s Speech
Yari drew encouragement from the President’s speech, in which he pledged to govern Nigeria in accordance with the country’s laws.
This further motivated Yari to pursue his quest for the Senate presidency.
Seeking Support from Opposition Parties
Accompanied by Senator Osita Izunaso, Yari revealed his intention to visit the leadership of opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and others, to seek their support for his candidacy.
Upholding the Constitution’s Supremacy
Yari reiterated the importance of the Constitution, stating that any law not in line with it is null and void.
He emphasized the need for democratic engagement and expressed confidence in the upcoming election on the floor of the House.
NNPP’s Endorsement of Yari’s Leadership Capabilities
The acting national chairman of the NNPP, Abba Kawu-Ali, praised Yari as a competent leader capable of occupying the position of Senate President.
He cited Yari’s successful two-term tenure as the Governor of Zamfara State as evidence of his capabilities.
