Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Mokete Tsotetsi has weighed in on the club’s performance this season, particularly highlighting the issues in their defense.
The Defensive Struggles
The 42-year-old, who hung up his boots after an impressive career, pointed out that the Amakhosi need to find the right defensive pairing to improve their backline.
In their seven league matches so far, Chiefs have managed just one clean sheet, and that came against AmaZulu.
Tsotetsi believes that more stability in defense is crucial for the team moving forward.
Goalkeeping Concerns
This season, Kaizer Chiefs brought in Fiacre Ntwari from TS Galaxy, hoping the Rwandan international would solidify their goalkeeping position.
However, Ntwari’s performances have been less than convincing.
After suffering an injury, coach Nasreddine Nabi gave senior keeper Brandon Petersen a shot, but Petersen has conceded three goals in just two matches.
Tsotetsi’s Opinion on Bvuma
Tsotetsi expressed concerns about the situation, stressing the importance of having a reliable defense.
He suggested that Chiefs should give goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma a fair shot at the starting role.
He feels Bvuma could provide the team with much-needed consistency in goal.
“To be honest, it’s a big concern for me,” Tsotetsi said in an interview with Soccer Laduma.
“But the goalkeeper isn’t solely to blame. The defense plays a big role, and Chiefs need to find the right balance at the back.”
Finding a Solution for the Backline
Tsotetsi emphasized that a solid defense is essential for any team, and without it, even the best goalkeepers will struggle.
He believes Kaizer Chiefs have the potential to excel in attack, but their defense is the area that needs urgent attention.
“It’s not a good look for a team like Chiefs to concede every game,” Tsotetsi added.
He urged coach Nabi to give Bvuma a few games to see if they can build a stronger defensive unit.
Kaizer Chiefs’ Next Challenge
Kaizer Chiefs have conceded nine goals in seven matches this season in the Betway Premiership.
The team is set to face Polokwane City on Sunday afternoon, and Tsotetsi will be hoping they can start addressing their defensive woes.
