Former House of Representatives Member Condemns Vice President’s Statement on Senate Presidency
In a recent development, Barrister Sani Mohammed Takori, a former member of the House of Representatives, has strongly criticized the remarks made by Vice President Kashim Shettima regarding the Senate Presidency.
Shettima had previously stated that “the worst and incompetent Southern Christian was better than the Northern Muslim in the Senate Presidency.”
Direct Attack on the North and North West Senator-elect
Takori, in response to the Vice President’s statement, expressed his disapproval, considering it a direct assault on the North, particularly targeting Abdulaziz Yari, the Senator-elect and former Governor of Zamfara State.
Through a statement, the former lawmaker called on Shettima to retract his words and seek forgiveness from the people of the North.
Appeal to President Tinubu for Fair Contest
Additionally, Takori urged President Tinubu to dismiss such sentiments and uphold democratic principles by allowing a free and fair competition in the Senate.
He reminded Tinubu of the collective efforts made by him and other compatriots in the struggle for the survival of the current democratic dispensation.
Trust in President Tinubu’s Democratic Values
Takori expressed his confidence in President Tinubu’s commitment to democracy and emphasized that he would not yield to undemocratic practices, especially concerning the election of National Assembly leadership.
Denial of Yari’s Right and Northern People’s Concern
Furthermore, Takori asserted that any attempt to prevent Yari from contesting for the Senate Presidency would be a clear denial of the rights of the entire northern population.
These developments highlight the ongoing controversy surrounding the Senate Presidency and the need for fair and inclusive democratic processes within Nigeria’s political landscape.Share on Facebook «||» Share on Twitter «||» Share on Reddit «||» Share on LinkedIn
