The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has taken a firm stance on discipline by disengaging 43 personnel for a range of offences, including desertion, scandalous behaviour, and patrol-related misconduct.
The announcement was made on Thursday by Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Corps’ Public Education Officer.
“This decisive action reaffirms that the FRSC badge is a symbol of honour and responsibility,” Ogungbemide stated.
“Any officer who violates the standards of this noble institution will face the full weight of our disciplinary machinery.”
Breakdown of the Dismissals
According to the statement, the 43 officers were dismissed as follows:
-
31 officers for desertion,
-
5 officers for scandalous behaviour, and
-
7 officers for misconduct during patrol duties.
These measures are part of the Corps’ ongoing efforts to maintain professionalism and restore public trust in its operations.
Corps Marshal Reaffirms Zero-Tolerance Policy
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed emphasized that the dismissals underline FRSC’s zero-tolerance approach toward indiscipline and ethical violations.
He warned that any behaviour capable of undermining public confidence or institutional integrity would not be tolerated.
“Desertion represents a serious breach of service oath and operational responsibility, particularly in an organisation entrusted with protecting millions of road users daily,” Mohammed said.
“Scandalous behaviour and patrol misconduct directly erode public confidence and contradict the core values of discipline, transparency, and service excellence upheld by the Corps.”
Upholding Professional Standards
The FRSC is a paramilitary organisation responsible for road traffic administration and safety management across Nigeria.
As part of its mandate, it enforces strict operational and ethical standards.
Internal disciplinary mechanisms are regularly applied to address misconduct, breaches of service rules, and actions that could compromise public trust.
Recent years have seen heightened focus on professionalism, ethical conduct, and accountability, particularly during patrol operations.
The latest dismissals follow thorough internal investigations, signalling to officers nationwide that ethical breaches and negligence will have serious consequences.
What’s Next?
The FRSC leadership has indicated that further measures will be taken to strengthen internal controls and ensure compliance with operational standards.
Officers are expected to undergo regular training on ethics, discipline, and service delivery, while the Corps continues to monitor patrol conduct closely.
The move also serves as a reminder that public trust is central to the Corps’ mission, and violations will be met with swift disciplinary action.
