Fatal crash on Kaduna-Zaria Expressway claims 6 lives, injures 11

Incident Details on Kaduna-Zaria Expressway

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kaduna Sector Command, reported a tragic incident along the Kaduna-Zaria expressway resulting in six fatalities and eleven injuries.

The collision occurred at the Aliko gas station, disrupting traffic flow on Tuesday morning at around 06:25.

Causes and Rescue Efforts

Mr. Kabir Nadabo, the sector commander, attributed the incident to speeding and reckless driving behavior.

He praised the prompt response and effective rescue efforts by the Zebra 35 Rigachikun team, swiftly clearing the route for traffic.

Crash Specifics and Responsible Parties

Initial investigations disclosed that a Toyota bus traveling from Ilesha to Batsari, Katsina State, was involved.

Nadabo emphasized the driver’s excessive speed leading to loss of control and collision with another vehicle, resulting in the tragic crash.

Addressing Safety Concerns and Prevention Measures

Nadabo highlighted the role of non-resident drivers, often fatigued from extended travel, in causing a significant portion of highway accidents.

Expressing deep regret, the FRSC Kaduna state stressed the preventable nature of such incidents and emphasized the importance of safety education and transport management.

Collaborative Measures and Awareness Campaigns

The FRSC Kaduna Sector Command is collaborating with transport unions and media outlets to promote safety advocacy among drivers.

They aim to raise awareness about the dangers associated with reckless driving, overloading, worn-out tires, and driver fatigue due to prolonged journeys.

Call for Responsible Driving

Nadabo concluded by urging all road users to prioritize safe driving practices, highlighting the crucial role each individual plays in preventing road traffic crashes.
