Rachel Kolisi, the former CEO of the Kolisi Foundation, has made headlines after announcing her decision to step down from the role she’s held since 2019.
This move comes after her high-profile divorce from rugby captain Siya Kolisi, and it seems that her personal life may have played a part in her decision to resign.
A New Chapter for Rachel Kolisi and the Kolisi Foundation
Rachel, a mother of two, co-founded the Kolisi Foundation with her estranged husband in 2019.
The foundation’s mission focuses on addressing inequality and creating thriving communities in South Africa through various charitable initiatives.
Despite the emotional transition, Rachel’s decision marks the end of a significant chapter for both her and the organization.
The announcement came as a surprise when the anti-gender-based violence NGO, The Justice Desk, shared the news of Rachel stepping down.
Though the Kolisi Foundation itself didn’t officially release a statement, Rachel took to social media to respond to the post from The Justice Desk.
Heartfelt Goodbye and Continued Support
The Justice Desk expressed deep appreciation for Rachel’s work, especially her involvement in the iNtsika yeThemba and Mbokodo Programs, which focus on combating gender-based violence.
In their message, they praised her unwavering support and stated that while they would miss her leadership, they were confident she would continue to do amazing work in the future.
Rachel responded with a heartfelt message: “Love and appreciate you all so much.”
Inside the Kolisis’ Separation
Rachel and Siya Kolisi announced their separation in October 2024 with a joint statement on Instagram.
They made it clear that the decision was mutual and amicable.
The couple, who share two children—Nicholas, 10, and Keziah, 7—also adopted Siya’s younger siblings, Liyema and Liphelo, when they were children.
In the midst of their separation, Rachel shared her feelings on Valentine’s Day, opening up about the challenges of parenting during such a difficult time.
She described the emotional toll of going through a breakup while still being fully committed to her children’s well-being.
“Parenting when the world feels like it’s crumbling around you is a different kind of challenge,” she wrote.
“One day at a time felt too big this week, so I just did one hour at a time, and it kinda helped – I made it to Saturday!”
Could Rachel’s Divorce Have Played a Role in Her Resignation?
The timing of Rachel’s resignation from the Kolisi Foundation has led many to speculate about whether her divorce influenced the decision.
