Switzerland is doubling down on its commitment to climate innovation, with a significant move for the nation’s green tech sector.
Emerald Technology Ventures, a Zurich-based venture capital firm specializing in climate technologies, has just received official confirmation that it will continue managing the Swiss Technology Fund through 2030.
This decision, made by the Swiss Government via the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), underscores the country’s long-term strategy to back sustainable innovation.
A Decade of Guiding Climate Innovation
Emerald has been at the helm of the Technology Fund since 2014, acting as the external management agency on behalf of FOEN.
Over the years, the firm has been instrumental in evaluating, recommending, and overseeing guarantee applications from climate-tech small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Switzerland.
The fund itself is designed to support groundbreaking work in areas like greenhouse gas reduction, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable resource management.
How the Technology Fund Works
The Technology Fund is more than just financial support—it’s a key instrument of Switzerland’s climate policy.
Managed by Emerald Technology Ventures AG in collaboration with its subcontractor, South Pole AG, the fund strategically backs companies that are pushing the boundaries of clean technology.
The Swiss Climate Division at FOEN oversees the fund’s governance to ensure that every investment aligns with national climate objectives.
Driving Sustainability and Green Innovation
By providing targeted financial backing, the Technology Fund helps accelerate the development of technologies that can reduce emissions, conserve resources, and promote renewable energy deployment.
It’s a clear example of how public-private collaboration can drive real-world solutions for climate change, giving Swiss SMEs the tools they need to turn innovative ideas into impactful, sustainable outcomes.
Looking Ahead
With Emerald’s mandate now extended through 2030, the Swiss Technology Fund is set to continue playing a pivotal role in shaping Switzerland’s climate tech landscape.
The next few years promise even more support for startups and SMEs aiming to tackle some of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time.
