Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove’s sudden collapse during the match against Inter Milan on Sunday left everyone in shock, but doctors have now provided an update on his health.
The 22-year-old fell to the ground unexpectedly during the 16th minute of the Serie A clash at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
The referee immediately halted the game as medical staff rushed to assist him.
The Immediate Response
As Bove lay unconscious on the pitch, his teammates and staff formed a protective barrier around him while the medical team worked to stabilize him.
Players from both teams were visibly emotional, and some were seen in tears.
The match was suspended, and players returned to their dressing rooms as Bove was transported to a nearby hospital in an ambulance.
Fiorentina’s Statement on Bove’s Condition
Fiorentina quickly released a statement saying that Bove was being treated in intensive care and was under pharmacological sedation.
Early medical tests showed that there was no acute damage to his central nervous system or respiratory system, providing some relief.
Doctors confirmed that his life was not in immediate danger after he regained consciousness at Careggi Hospital in Florence.
Teammates and Loved Ones Gather at the Hospital
Among the first to arrive at the hospital were Fiorentina captain Cristiano Biraghi and fellow player Martinez Quarta.
Several other teammates, including Danilo Cataldi, who had assisted Bove on the field, were also seen at the hospital, showing their support.
The family and girlfriend of the young player were there too—his father Giovanni and girlfriend Martina arrived shortly after the incident, while his mother Tanya collapsed at the stadium upon hearing the news.
After receiving care, she made her way to the hospital as well, accompanied by the mayor of Florence, Sara Funaro.
Support From the Football Community
In response to the incident, Fiorentina expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from fans, clubs, and the wider football community.
Inter Milan and Serie A also extended their solidarity, with Inter president Giuseppe Marotta stating that the decision to suspend the match was a unanimous one, reflecting the emotional involvement of everyone, including the referee.
Bove’s Career and Recovery
Bove, who is on loan at Fiorentina from Roma, has played 14 matches for his current club, even scoring his first goal against Roma in October.
He has represented Italy at various youth levels but has not yet made his debut for the senior national team.
The next 24 hours will be crucial for his recovery, as doctors continue to monitor his condition.
With support from all corners of the football world, Bove’s fans are hopeful for his full recovery.
