Devastated Husband Stumbles Upon His Wife’s Body Being Swallowed by Giant Python in Indonesia, Village Residents Unite to Slay the Beast

In a chilling incident that shook a small Indonesian village, a husband discovered his wife’s lifeless body being consumed by a massive python.

The python, stretching 16 feet in length, had attacked Hapsah, a 57-year-old woman, at a rubber tree plantation in Muaro Jambi Regency on August 27.

The Attack

Hapsah was working in the plantation when the giant snake, hidden among the tall grass, struck.

The python quickly overpowered her, wrapping itself around her body and tightening its grip until she suffocated.

Her husband, M Safri, 66, who was also working in the plantation, grew concerned when she didn’t return home that afternoon.

As he searched for her, he heard rustling in the undergrowth and was horrified to find the python coiled around her, preparing to swallow her whole.

Desperate Actions

Police Chief Iptu Usaha Sitepu described the grim scene: “When he approached the sound, he saw that the victim had been constricted to death and was about to be swallowed head-first.

Realizing she was already dead, he could only pull at the snake’s tail and hit it until it loosened its grip.”

Safri then rushed back to the village to get help.

Villagers’ Vengeance

A group of angry villagers soon arrived to deal with the python.

They found it hiding near the roots of a tree and, in a furious response, killed the snake.

Village head Amdi recounted the horrific details: “Hapsah was nearly entirely swallowed by the snake, with only half of her body remaining outside.

Her husband managed to free her just before the snake could complete its meal. The snake was later killed and brought back to the village for everyone to see.”

Heartbreaking Reflections

Safri, devastated by the loss, took his wife’s body home to prepare for her funeral.

He reflected, “If I had known she was in such danger, I would have stayed to protect her.”

Sadly, this wasn’t an isolated incident.

Just two weeks earlier, another grandmother, Maga, 74, met a similar fate.

While grazing her cows in a forest near Palopo City, she was attacked and half-consumed by a python.

Her son found her and, like in the recent case, the villagers killed the snake and brought its body back as a grim trophy.

A Deadly Species

Reticulated pythons, known for their size and strength, are found throughout Southeast Asia.

They inhabit various environments, including forests, swamps, and even urban areas, leading to dangerous encounters with humans.

As one of the world’s largest snakes, they have the capability to prey on a wide range of animals, including humans.
